RE-IMAGINING UC ID
Problem: The University of Cincinnati has highly successful Industrial Design program but their facilities don’t reflect that. How can the ID facilities better foster sharing of classroom learning + professional experience?
Solution: After interviewing industrial design students and faculty, we designed a floorplan that shifts the way that the ID facilities currently function. Instead of having a personal workspace inside the classroom, in our plan students will have their personal workspace in a larger open studio and go to class, held in a different area so the class environment has minimal distractions. In addition to the open studio and classroom, we proposed incorporating a collaborative meeting space, a branded hallway for displaying projects, a quiet work area, an updated fab lab and assembly room and including faculty offices on the ID floor.
